Computer Skills Program
CHALLENGE
Local residents lacked access to basic computer skills that would be useful at home, school and work.
IDEA
Partner with a local community college and leverage existing relationships to provide the training at a convenient location and affordable price.
RESULT
A training program was established whereby a community college instructor will teach courses from the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Powerpoint) at the computer lab of a local Outreach Center. Residents can apply for a Texas Public Education Grant (TPEG) to cover the cost. Each course lasts 5 weeks and meets twice a week for two hours. Residents receive a certificate at the end of each course.
