Adult Education Programs

CHALLENGE

There was a lack of access to education programs for adults that could lead to better job opportunities.

IDEA

Partner with a local community college and set up English as a Second Language (ESL) courses, as well as the high school diploma equivalent, General Education Development (GED) courses.  The courses are offered at a central location that is within walking distance for the local residents.

RESULT

The ESL and GED programs at the Grapevine Community Outreach Center has served over 500 students since the first class four years ago.  Multiple classes in the mornings and evenings are in place to support people's different schedules. Courses are offered free of charge and led by community college instructors and volunteer tutors.
